Les Orchidées Rouges (the Red Orchids in English) is a Bordeaux (France) based organisation which also works in the Ivory Coast. Les Orchidées Rouges aims for the deconstruction of the practice of FGM and to shatter the taboo around it by speaking in the media and raising awareness. They work on preventing FGM by providing training to different kinds of professionals (health, National Education, social workers, employees and volunteers of associations, professionals of institutions and all the civil society). This works to prevent the practice better and to facilitate the identification of survivors and their reconstruction path.

They organise interventions in schools about FGM to educate young people about the consequences of the practice and deconstruct it. In France, they have official authorization from the Academy of Bordeaux which is the authority managing the educational establishments. They conduct their actions in school to raise awareness among young people.

In Cote d’Ivoire, since the beginning of 2020, they have raised awareness among more than 3000 young people in the schools in the north of Cote d’Ivoire. They also provide support for FGM survivors, allowing them to speak freely about their trauma and their needs in a safe place. Les Orchidées Rouges work with a multidisciplinary team composed of 25 professionals in France and 14 professionals in Côte d’Ivoire. The support they provide is entirely free, global and co-built with the Survivors. They propose free consultations, workshops and speaking groups to allow Survivors to emancipate themselves and protect themselves and their children.  They support women and girls FGM survivors to reconstruct themselves psychologically, and physically, reappropriate their bodies, and their sexuality and empower them through social and professional insertion.
