A Spanish Network against FGM
In Spain, on the 6th of February, a new national network against Female Genital Mutilation saw the light: our Spain-based members are all part of it.
UNAF, Médicos del Mundo, Wassu and Save a Girl Save a Generation are now part of a new umbrella group to coordinate efforts to combat the practice, known as the Red Estatal Libres de MGF (“National Network Free of FGM”).
Other members are the Association of Guinean Women of Madrid, the Friends of African People Association (KARIBU), the Intercultural Women’s Association of Mauritania (DIMBÉ), the Federation of Progressive Women, Módulo Auzolán, Mujeres entre mundos, Sunu Gaal, as well as the Municipality of Bilbao, the University of Murcia and the Institut Catalá de Salud (Catalan Health Institute).
They organised an event in Plaza de Callao on the 6th of February to present their manifesto. During the event there was also a live performance by “Astrid Jones and the Blue Flaps”.
