Aidos Italy - From Kigali to Rome
AIDOS, our Italian member committed to promoting women's rights and combating gender-based violence, has been actively involved in the fight to end FGM globally.
In July, AIDOS participated to the Women Deliver Conference in Kigali (Rwanda). Besides meeting with amazing activists from all around the world, it was the occasion to gather in person with some of the members of the Community of Practice on FGM and exchange views on achievements and perspectives for the network of professionals and activists working to respond and end FGM. AIDOS and GAMS organized an informal meeting with the members attending the Conference and also participated to the Pre-Conference on FGM, facilitating a short discussion on how to involve men with a gender transformative approach in anti-FGM projects.
In September, AIDOS hosted in Rome (Italy) the coordination meeting of the EU funded End FGM E-Campus project, that aims to contribute to preventing and responding to FGM though the capacity building of professionals and victim/survivor-centred access to justice, by providing high quality, comprehensive, holistic and interdisciplinary theoretical and practical knowledge to professionals dealing with FGM-affected individuals and communities. Partners APF, CUT, End FGM EU, GAMS and MIGS gathered to shape an e-learning platform to increase the capacity of frontline professionals to provide survivors and those at risk of FGM with gender-specific and culturally appropriate support. The platform will be online in the first half of 2024.
