Akidwa Launch UEFGM in Ireland
AkiDwA will launch the United to END FGM (UEFGM) European Knowledge Platform online offering information and practical advice to professionals on female genital mutilation (FGM) on the 6th February, International Day for Zero Tolerance on FGM By Senator Alice-Mary HigginsatEurope House, 12-14 Mount Street Lower, DublinRegistration from 9.30. Launch from 10.00 am to 12.00 pm
Over the last 2 years AkiDwA has been a partner in developing this platform which includes: an e-learning course available in 9 languages, country specific information covering 11 EU member states, as well as ‘live knowledge’ including webinars and an online discussion forum. UEFGM is the result of a transnational project funded by the European Union and implemented by a consortium of 12 partner organizations and 4 associate organisations across the EU.
The project aimed to design and develop a web-based knowledge platform on FGM that would provide easily accessible (and culturally appropriate) information and support to professionals to deliver victim support more effectively, help prevent FGM and protect women and girls living with or at risk of FGM, and serve as a resource and education centre. More importantly, it seeks to improve the public and professional knowledge on FGM to better prevent and address this specific form of violence against women and girls as defined in the Council of Europe Convention of Violence against Women and Domestic Violence (Istanbul Convention).
The UEFGM E-Learning course is supported by the: UNHCR Global Learning Centre (Protection Unit) and the Bureau for Europe, European Police Academy (CEPOL), European Midwives Association (EMA), and the European Network of Migrant Women (ENMW).
If you follow this link http://www.uefgm.org/Index.aspx?Language=EN you can have a sneak preview of the tool, however a new website is under development to coincide with the trans-European launch. We have deliberately chosen to launch the tool today on the International Day for Zero Tolerance on FGM (http://www.un.org/en/events/femalegenitalmutilationday/).
