Lessan: A wallet-sized leaflet to explain FGM law
Lessan has made a leaflet called "STATEMENT OPPOSING FEMALE GENITAL MUTILATION" to explain abroad that female genital mutilation (FGM) is a crime in Germany and that you could be sent to prison for practicing FGM. "You should always carry this document with you when you go abroad. In this way you will be able to clearly explain to your family members that female genital mutilation (FGM) is a criminal offence in Germany", states the text on the leaflet.
The leaflet has also useful legal addresses and a free number to call if someone has any questions regarding female genital mutilation: it provides counselling in 17 different languages – 24 hours daily. The leaflet also suggests to keep the same document safely with travel documents in order to have it every time you go abroad.
