Orchid Project - Meet the Asia Network to End FGM/C
As part of #CSW65, Orchid Project and the Asian-Pacific Resource and Research Centre for Women (ARROW) brought together a number of renowned activists, researchers, and survivors from across the Asia region for a virtual event titled “FGM/C is Our Issue Too: Voices from Asia”. The event also served as a platform for the two partners to introduce the Asia Network to End FGM/C—a collaborative group of civil society actors working to end all forms of the practice across Asia.
Speakers at the event shared insights into best practices and barriers when it comes to data collection and reporting on the practice in the region, trends towards a more harmful medicalised form of FGM/C, and how civil society can support data-gathering efforts.
The Asia Network to End FGM/C will play a pivotal role in accelerating efforts to end FGM/C in a region where the practice is prevalent in at least 13 countries, and where no country has enacted legislation to prevent the practice and only two countries have publicly reported national data under SDG 5.3.2.
