UNAF: Training in prevention and intervention on FGM in Spain
The need for training in prevention and intervention on FGM for professionals working in humanitarian and refugee shelters is a growing demand in Spain. Among them, the Child Protection Centers are also included. In the last months of 2019, UNAF has taught several courses for them in collaboration with the NGOs Cruz Roja Málaga, CEAR Alicante and the Center for the Protection of Minors Bermúdez de Castro in Granada. They involved 136 professionals working directly in or in collaboration with these centers, from the health, education, law and social sectors. As part of these actions, UNAF also conducted workshops on Sexual Health and Prevention of FGM with migrant women, girls aged 15 to 18 and men, coming mainly from Guinea, Mali, Ivory Coast and Senegal.
Another key milestone in this period has been the holding of the working session for the development of a Spanish state network for the end of FGM and other associated sexist violences, in which UNAF convened 25 activists and professionals from all over the country to work together.
UNAF is also strengthening the awareness in the education sector, by distributing their 'Didactic Guide on FGM to work in the classroom' to more than 50 educational centres and carried out trainings with teachers, social educators and socio-cultural animators.
