Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada - Policy statement on female genital mutilation (2012)

This Policy Statement of the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (SOGC) of Canada, published in the Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Canada, condemns the practice of FGM as a violation of human rights and highlights the important role of health care professionals in contributing towards its eradication. It sets some advice for the health professionals, states the support of the SOGC to all initiatives towards the eradication of FGM and, importantly, recommends that the issue of FGM should be integrated into the medical school curriculum for both students and residents.
