1951 Refugee Convention

The 1951 Refugee Convention was produced in the aftermath of World War II. Sixty years later, the Convention is seen as lacking in gender perspective. Asylum claims grounded on gender-specific claims like FGM, considered a human rights violation, have been increasing, but the interpretation of the Convention on these grounds is still uneven across states and tribunals.
