UN DESA - Handbook for Legislation on Violence against Women (2010)
This Handbook for Legislation on Violence against Women by the Division for the Advancement of Women in the Department of Economic and Social Affairs of the United Nations Secretariat provides detailed guidance on adopting and implementing legislation on violence against women for all stakeholders. The handbook is based on international standards and highlights the importance of adopting a human rights-based and comprehensive approach to violence against women, not only focused on prosecution but prioritising prevention measures and ensuring the protection and the rights of survivors. Legislation must include provision for its monitoring and evaluation and foresee the allocation of the appropriate resources.
Complementary resources like a power point presentation of the model framework for legislation and an explanatory video are available here.
