Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) are elected officials representing the people of all 27 European Union Member States (EU MS).

As such, they play a key role in the democratic functioning of the EU and in shaping policies that have an impact on the life of us all. Many MEPs have been instrumental in the past decade to propose fundamental policies that aim to prevent and eliminate gender-based violence (GBV) including female genital mutilation.

End FGM EU has developed strong allyships throughout the years and is building on strengthening the links and create new ones during this 10th parliamentary term.

We started engaging with MEPs of the current term before the 2024 EU elections, during the campaign – we prepared our manifesto for candidate MEPs and asked them to sign it as a pledge. Click here to see which elected MEPs signed the Manifesto to end FGM.

Through their work, selected Members of the European Parliament are crucial partners for the community of the End FGM European Network and its members. The MEPs highlighted below have supported progress toward the elimination of female genital mutilation in Europe and beyond.

Through the initiative #MEPs2EndFGM we are recognising the important role they can play for our movement. We look forward to working together more and more closely, to ensure that gender-based violence prevention policies be implemented effectively across the EU.

To remain aligned with its values, End FGM EU collaborates only with MEPs who uphold these principles, who do not use survivors voices for political agendas, and who do not take racist or discriminatory positions, including regarding migrant or transgender communities. End FGM EU is an independent civil society organisation and has no political affiliations. The MEPs we choose to work with are embracing the approach for the sustainable elimination and prevention of female genital mutilation that is rooted in intersectional feminism and based on the experience of the affected communities, our members, our partners and leading research findings.

We reserve the right to interrupt allyships with MEPs in case of misalignment with our values.
