Who are they?
The Global Platform for Action to end FGM/C came together in early 2019 to place FGM high on the agenda of the Women Deliver 2019 conference, through a joint event that was considered among the top 5 ways of making an impact. It was the very first time that representatives from civil society working on FGM worldwide came together united publicly to make FGM a thing of the past.
The core group is made up of 12 Non-Governmental Organisations who have the common goal of eliminating FGM and supporting Survivors.
Current Projects
We have launched an online campaign around Generation Equality and send a joint open letter with Girls Not Brides to ensure FGM and child marriage are included in the agenda.
What we produced together
The Global Platform has carried out several joint advocacy actions since its creation mainly targeting United Nations’ processes:
- On the occasion of the ICPD+25 Conference in Nairobi in November 2019, we have officially launched together our Global Call to Action to end FGM/C.
- In 2020, we have provided input to United Nations’ processes concerning FGM at the Human Rights Council
- In 2020, we have also produced a Global Report on FGM/C on the progress made to end FGM worldwide in the past couple of years
