Rukio Omer

For almost 10 years, Rukio has worked as project coordinator at the Federation of Somali Associations Netherlands (FSAN), focused on raising awareness about FGM. Rukio trains community leaders, works with policy-makers, and collaborates with healthcare professionals to protect women and girls from harmful practices. Committed to promoting women's rights and eliminating FGM, Rukio strives to impact gender equality positively.

Rukio is also the co-founder of the Belt of Somali Women, founded in 2023 to address the urgent need for collective action against Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) in Somali communities, specifically in the Horn of Africa. The Belt is dedicated to increasing the visibility of grassroots organizations in the Somali Region and highlighting their impactful community engagement efforts.
