Duplicate of End FGM EU’s recommendations to the Polish Presidency of the Council of the European Union
As part of our advocacy efforts, every six months we send End FGM EU’s recommendations to the rotating Presidency of the Council of the European Union on matters related to FGM and Gender Equality.

As the Polish Presidency of the Council of the European Union begins, End FGM EU has submitted a letter outlining key recommendations to ensure the EU continues to advance gender equality and protect women and girls from harmful practices like Female Genital Mutilation (FGM).
In this letter, we emphasize the importance of a human rights-based approach, intersectional strategies, and stronger commitments to ending gender-based violence, with a particular focus on the prevention of and support for FGM survivors. The full letter includes detailed suggestions for the Polish Presidency’s priorities in the coming months.
Key Recommendations:
-
Strengthening Protection for Women and Girls: Promote a human rights-based, gender-sensitive asylum system to protect FGM-affected women and girls seeking refuge in the EU.
-
Combatting Gender-Based Violence: Ensure full implementation of the Istanbul Convention and the EU’s Directive on Combating Violence Against Women and Domestic Violence.
-
Increasing Resources for Gender Equality: Advocate for more funding to combat gender-based violence and support civil society organizations working in this space.
-
Supporting FGM Survivors: Prioritize comprehensive sexual and reproductive health services, including mental health support, for survivors of gender-based violence.
-
Improving Data Collection: Lead efforts to improve data collection on gender-based violence, including FGM, across EU Member States.
