Since September 2019, the project partners Lessan e.V., Femmes Entraide et Autonomie and TERRE DES FEMMES have been working within the framework of the EU co-funded project "Men Standing Up for Gender Equality" for the long-term overcoming of female genital mutilation/cutting (FGM/C) and child, early and forced marriage (CEFM). A total of 30 men from affected communities in Hamburg, Paris and Berlin were trained as multipliers against gender-based violence.

Together with our Cypriot member, the Mediterranean Institute of Gender Studies (MIGS), and our Swiss member, the Network against FGC Switzerland, we have submitted two shadow reports to GREVIO, in order to highlight the current situation and propose concrete recommendations on the issue of prevention, protection, prosecution and integrated policies on female genital mutilation in Cyprus. While this report focuses only on the harmful practice of FGM, its aim is not to single it out in isolation, but to put emphasis on it while placing it within the continuum of gender-based violence against women and girls.

The TuWezeshe Akina Dada is an international program which seeks to nurture a generation of young women from FGM-affected communities [Fellows] into effective leaders in the campaign against FGM. The TuWezeshe Fellowship incorporates a bespoke leadership training for women from FGM-affected communities aged 18-30 years who have a keen interest in research and FGM advocacy and are based in Europe.
